At the heart of the design lies a 3.63 ct untreated Australian sapphire, rich in green tones that evoke the river’s deep, tranquil waters. Beside it rests a round Australian champagne diamond, warm and earthy in hue. Both are embraced by an 18k Australian yellow gold band, its fluid lines inspired by the Murray’s meandering path.
Long before European settlement, the River Murray sustained thriving First Nations communities. In South Australia, the river holds profound significance for Traditional Owners such as the Ngarrindjeri and the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee region, whose connection to this land spans over 40,000 years. Archaeological evidence reveals continuous occupation along the lower Murray for tens of thousands of years, making it one of the most enduringly inhabited landscapes on Earth.
The river is known by many names among local language groups. In the Ngarrindjeri language, it is called Millewa (also spelled Milawa), while the Yorta Yorta people of Victoria call it Dhungala or Tongala. These names reflect deep cultural and spiritual connections, rooted in oral traditions, place-based knowledge, and ancestral lore.
