Topaz
Topaz is the birthstone of November (imperial topaz) and December (blue topaz), and the gem of 4th and 23rd anniversaries. It has a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale and is suitable for everyday wear but need protection from sharp and heavy impacts. Colourless white topaz is often heat-treated, creating the blue topaz most commonly seen.
Red topaz was named imperial topaz in honour of the Russian Tsars where it was first found and is the rarest variety of topaz. Natural topaz comes in many shades of yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue and green as well as white and transparent versions. Utopian Creation's topaz is sourced typically from O'Brien's creek near Mt Surprise in Queensland.
