Utopian Creations ◆ Ring sizing
Find your ring size
Three ways to size at home — lay a ring you already own over a true-to-size circle, measure your finger, or read the chart. Accurate to a quarter size.
The size finder
Match it on screen
Calibrate your screen with any bank card so the circles show at real size, then rest your ring over them.
Screen scale 3.78 px / mm · a card is 85.6 mm wide. Keep browser zoom at 100%.
Step 2 · Lay your ring flat on the screen. The circle that just fills the inside of your band is your size — tap it to confirm.
Each circle’s width is that size’s inside diameter.
Utopian CreationsWrap a strip of paper or string snugly around the base of your finger, mark where it meets, and measure that length in millimetres.

Two ways to measure
From a ring you own
- Choose a ring that fits the intended finger well.
- Measure its inside diameter across the widest point, in millimetres.
- Find that figure in the Inside Ø column below.
- Or simply rest the ring on the size circles above.
From your finger
- Wrap paper or string around the base of the finger.
- Mark where it overlaps, then lay it flat along a ruler.
- That length in millimetres is your circumference.
- Enter it in the finger tab above, or match it in the chart.
For an accurate fit
- Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are largest.
- Measure warm — cold shrinks fingers noticeably.
- Between sizes? Size up — a slightly loose ring is safer.
- The ring must clear your knuckle, not just fit the base.
- Wide bands sit tighter — add about half a size past 4 mm.
- Most pieces can be resized — ask us if you’re unsure.

The details
Sizing, resizing & fit
Buying a ring you can’t try on first is a leap of faith. Here’s exactly how we handle fit, so you know where you stand before and after your ring arrives.
One free resize in your first two weeks
Every ring we sell comes with one complimentary resize within the first two weeks of ownership — metal and labour both covered. It’s there so you can settle into your ring and be sure of the fit.
Assume up or down two sizes
As a general rule, take it that a ring can be sized up or down by about two sizes. More is sometimes possible, but it depends entirely on the piece — so we treat anything beyond two sizes case by case. Ask us and we’ll tell you honestly what your ring can do.
Some designs can’t be altered
A few designs can’t be resized without being remade — full eternity bands and rings set with stones all the way around, tension settings, and some intricate or textured pieces. Where that’s the case, we’ll tell you before you buy, and getting your size right the first time matters more.
A note on materials
Metals behave differently on the bench — platinum and the various golds each resize in their own way. On very fine bands, or hand-finished surfaces like our Ebenezer texture, a resize can occasionally show a join or need the finish restored. We’ll always flag it if your ring is one of these.
Five days, often sooner
Most resizes are done within five days of your ring reaching the workshop, and frequently faster. If yours is a more involved piece we’ll let you know up front.
Resizes beyond two weeks
After the first two weeks, resizes are quoted per ring, since the work depends on the size change, the metal and the design. As a rough guide, most fall somewhere between $80 and $300. We’ll always quote your exact piece before we begin.
Two situations, one fair rule
Both ready-to-wear and bespoke rings come with the same complimentary two-week resize. The difference is returns: a ready-to-wear ring that has been resized can no longer be returned under our 7-day 100% refund policy, because it’s been altered to you. A bespoke ring is made to your size and can’t be returned in any case. So if there’s any doubt, confirm your size before we resize — not after.
Getting it to us and back
You post the ring to us for a resize — at your cost, sent tracked and signature-on-delivery via Australia Post Express, which our insurance requires. We then cover the return trip back to you: postage and full insurance on us. Please hold on to your tracking number until your ring is safely with us.
A sizing kit, posted to you
Prefer to measure with the real thing? We’ll post out a physical ring size kit for $35 — and credit that $35 back against your ring when you order. It’s the most reliable way to size at home short of visiting the studio.
The surest fit of all
If you can reach us in Adelaide, the most accurate size is one we take by hand at the studio. It takes a few minutes and removes all the guesswork.
These terms cover the ordinary run of things. Every ring is its own piece, so if yours raises a question that isn’t answered here, just ask — we’d always rather talk it through than leave you guessing.
Not quite sure? We’ll size you properly.

Measurements are a guide. Finger size changes with temperature, time of day and over a lifetime, and wide or heavy bands fit differently to fine ones. The most reliable fit is one we take in person.
