Tanzanite | Utopian Creations
Tanzanite is one of the modern gemstone worldβs most distinctive discoveries, known for its vivid blue to violet-blue colour and remarkable rarity. Found only in a small area near Mount Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania, tanzanite has a geographic origin story unlike almost any other gemstone.
Its colour can shift between blue, violet and purple depending on the light and viewing angle, giving each stone a lively, changeable character. Most tanzanite is heated to bring out its rich blue-violet colour, a stable and accepted treatment when properly disclosed.
With a hardness of around 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale, tanzanite is softer than sapphire or diamond and should be worn with care. It can be beautiful in rings when protected by thoughtful setting design, but it is especially well suited to earrings, pendants and occasional-wear jewellery.
At Utopian Creations, we choose tanzanites for their colour, brightness and individuality. Each stone is selected with care, and we record origin and treatment information clearly wherever it is known.
