Peridot | Utopian Creations

Peridot is a bright green gemstone known for its fresh, lively colour and warm golden undertones. Unlike many gemstones, which occur in a wide range of colours, peridot is always green — from pale yellow-green through to rich olive and vivid lime tones.

It is the birthstone for August and is traditionally associated with the 16th wedding anniversary. Peridot has been treasured since ancient times and is one of the few gemstones that can also arrive on Earth from space, with rare crystals found in some meteorites.

With a hardness of around 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, peridot is suitable for many jewellery designs but should be worn with some care. It is softer than sapphire or diamond and can scratch or chip if knocked against hard surfaces, so protective settings are recommended for rings and everyday pieces.

At Utopian Creations, we choose peridots for their colour, brightness and character. Where origin details are known, we record them clearly, whether the stone is Australian, international, or from an older collection.
