This ring has been named after the remarkable Dr. Mae Jemison, a pioneering physician, engineer, and astronaut who broke barriers across multiple fields and became the first African American woman to travel into space. Born on October 17, 1956, in Decatur, Alabama, Jemison showed early determination when her kindergarten teacher suggested she become a nurse instead of a scientist, prompting young Mae to firmly declare "No, I mean a scientist." She earned dual degrees from Stanford University in chemical engineering and African and African-American studies, followed by her medical degree from Cornell University, then served as a Peace Corps medical officer in Sierra Leone and Liberia. In 1987, she was selected as one of only 15 candidates from over 2,000 applicants for NASA's astronaut program, and on September 12, 1992, she made history aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour, orbiting Earth 127 times over eight days as a mission specialist. Beyond her space achievements, Jemison founded The Jemison Group technology consulting firm, served as an environmental studies professor at Dartmouth College, and currently leads the ambitious 100 Year Starship Project aimed at ensuring human interstellar travel capabilities by 2112. Just as Mae Jemison created a continuous path from her childhood dreams to the stars and beyond, the diamonds in this ring flow in an unbroken sequence around the band, making her the perfect namesake for a ring that celebrates both the beauty of seamless achievement and the warm glow of breaking barriers for others to follow.
Our skilled team digitally creates all images in our 'Create Your Ring Online' selection. The images are not photographs but are photorealistic. Most are designed with the aid of AI, and many start with a sketch on paper or Procreate as their foundation. Many are reworked with Photoshop. This is to create the most accurate images of rings that are yet to be made, providing a representation of how these rings will look in person. Once you choose your design, we will create your ring to the specifications you have chosen, including width and ring size. We guarantee your ring will be very close to, if not exactly the same as, the supplied images in line with Australian consumer law. The ring you will receive is unique to you.
