6.18ct Australian Topaz, Blue - Oval Cut

Topaz is a lovely gemstone, very hard, one of the few gemstones suitable for everyday wear, however please keep in mind it is softer and more brittle than diamond or sapphire and therefore has a greater chance of chipping. Traditional bright blue topaz generally starts it life as a pale brown, then its treated with heat or radiation to change it to a number of different shades of blue. This however, is completely untreated Australian blue topaz. Its far lighter than treated topaz, a light sky blue, similar to the lightest of blue sapphire. This Topaz has some areas of blue and other areas that are completely colourless, its very pretty. The last two photos were backlit and taken with our gemological microscope. This helps to show up any inclusions and here we can see a couple of amazing comet like inclusions that are often seen in Topaz. These are very difficult to see without magnification and they dont detract from the gemstone at all, in fact we think they are a real bonus. If you are looking for a pale blue gemstone for an engagement ring or everyday dress ring Australian blue topaz is a, budget friendly choice (however please keep in mind it can be brittle). We have spent years acquiring rough blue topaz from O'Brians creek in Queensland and can have it cut to order if you have a special shape or size you would like.
