0.85ct Australian Parti Sapphire, Blue/Teal/Yellow - Pear Cut
Blue at the tip, teal in the center and yellow in the rounded end, a classic Australian parti sapphire. Its a lovely graduated colour change within this crystal, interestingly it would have grown from the direction of the blue tip to the yellow base. There is an inclusion that can be seen in the photos, but its in the dark blue tip and is almost impossible to see without magnification.
Sapphires are the second hardest natural gemstone after diamond. Hardness is very important if the piece is to be worn daily, as in the case with an engagement ring. Sapphires are one of the few gemstones suitable for this purpose and Australian sapphires are some of the worlds best. If this sapphire is not exactly what you are after or if you have other requests please contact us as we have a vast collection and a wonderful group of miners who toil day in day our looking for more of these enchanting and enduring crystals.

Why Choose a Sapphire

  • Symbolism — Sapphires have long been associated with wisdom, loyalty, and royalty, making them a meaningful choice for life's most significant moments.
  • Exceptional Durability — At 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, sapphires are second only to diamonds in resistance to scratching — built for a lifetime of daily wear.
  • Colour Diversity — Far beyond classic blue, sapphires occur in an extraordinary spectrum: green, yellow, pink, peach, teal, parti, and more. Each colour has its own character and rarity.
  • Australian Provenance — Australia is a leading source of natural sapphires, particularly from the gem fields of Queensland and New South Wales. Buying Australian sapphires supports traceable, ethical sourcing.

Sapphire FAQs

Can a sapphire be used in an engagement ring?
Absolutely. Sapphires are among the most popular alternatives to diamonds for engagement rings, prized for their durability, colour range, and symbolism. Their hardness makes them entirely suitable for daily wear.

Are all sapphires blue?
No. While blue is the most familiar colour, sapphires occur naturally in nearly every colour of the spectrum — green, yellow, pink, peach, teal, parti-coloured, and more. The only exception is red, which is classified as ruby (the same mineral, corundum).

What does "untreated" mean?
An untreated sapphire is one that has not been heated or otherwise enhanced after being mined. The colour and clarity you see is exactly as nature produced it. Untreated stones are rarer and command a premium for their authenticity.

How do I care for a sapphire?
Sapphires are remarkably low-maintenance. Clean with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush. Avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners if the stone has any significant inclusions. The hardness of sapphire means it resists scratching in everyday wear.
