Jocelyn
- Sourced Responsibly
Our Jocelyn Ring (named after Jocelyn Bell Burnell and her discovery of pulsars, the universe's brilliant lighthouses), features a sophisticated row of brilliant round diamonds set in gleaming yellow gold with shared prong settings. This elegant design showcases exceptional craftsmanship with precisely positioned diamonds that create a continuous line of golden brilliance, each stone catching and reflecting light like cosmic beacons. The warm yellow gold setting perfectly complements the diamonds' fire and sparkle, whilst the shared prong design maximises light entry from every angle. The comfortable band and secure settings make this ring perfect for daily wear, creating the kind of regular, rhythmic sparkle that mirrors the pulsing light of distant stars. Perfect for those who appreciate celestial beauty and scientific precision.
In 1967, while working as a graduate student at Cambridge University, Jocelyn discovered the first radio pulsars - rapidly spinning neutron stars that emit beams of electromagnetic radiation like cosmic lighthouses, sending regular pulses of light across the universe. Her meticulous analysis of miles of chart paper led her to spot mysterious signals pulsing every 1.3 seconds, initially jokingly called "LGM" (Little Green Men) before being identified as the rotating cores of collapsed stars.

This ring has been named after the remarkable Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, a pioneering Northern Irish astrophysicist who made one of the most significant astronomical discoveries of the 20th century. Born on July 15, 1943, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Bell Burnell's passion for astronomy was sparked at age 14 when she read Fred Hoyle's challenging book "Frontiers of Astronomy" from cover to cover. In 1967, while working as a graduate student at Cambridge University, she discovered the first radio pulsars - rapidly spinning neutron stars that emit beams of electromagnetic radiation like cosmic lighthouses, sending regular pulses of light across the universe. Her meticulous analysis of miles of chart paper led her to spot mysterious signals pulsing every 1.3 seconds, initially joking called "LGM" (Little Green Men) before being identified as the rotating cores of collapsed stars. Though controversially excluded from the 1974 Nobel Prize that was awarded to her supervisor, Bell Burnell later received the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics in 2018, donating the entire $3 million prize to help women, ethnic minorities, and refugees become research physicists. Just as pulsars send their brilliant beams of light across vast cosmic distances in perfect rhythm, the diamonds in this ring create their own regular pattern of golden sparkle and light, making Jocelyn Bell Burnell the perfect namesake for a ring that celebrates the beauty of precision, brilliance, and discovery.
Our skilled team digitally creates all images in our 'Create Your Ring Online' selection. The images are not photographs but are photorealistic. Most are designed with the aid of AI, and many start with a sketch on paper or Procreate as their foundation. Many are reworked with Photoshop. This is to create the most accurate images of rings that are yet to be made, providing a representation of how these rings will look in person. Once you choose your design, we will create your ring to the specifications you have chosen, including width and ring size. We guarantee your ring will be very close to, if not exactly the same as, the supplied images in line with Australian consumer law. The ring you will receive is unique to you.
If you prefer to see photos of a real ring that is available for purchase from our inventory, check out our 'Ready to Wear' collection.
