An elongated emerald cut sapphire showing interesting colour banding across the gemstone. Its a very pretty colour, light to mid tone and the faceting is excellent. There are some inclusions deep in the gemstone, but these are not easily seen without magnification. Dug and cut by hand in Queensland, completely untreated.
Sapphires are the second hardest natural gemstone after diamond. Hardness is very important if the piece is to be worn daily, as in the case with an engagement ring. Sapphires are one of the few gemstones suitable for this purpose and Australian sapphires are some of the worlds best.
