What is a Proposal Ring?

The Utopian Creations Proposal Ring is designed for those who want to propose with confidence, but aren’t quite sure what ring style their partner would love to wear forever.

It’s a semi-temporary, custom-made sterling silver ring that securely holds your chosen engagement gemstone. This allows you to confidently select the stone your partner will wear for life, while leaving the final design decisions for after the proposal — so you can design the forever ring together.

It’s the perfect balance of surprise, intention, and flexibility.

How the process works

• Select a loose gemstone from our curated collection (add to cart)
• Choose your proposal ring finish — Sterling Silver, Yellow Gold plated, or Rose Gold plated — from the dropdown options
• Select your ring size. If you’re unsure of the size, you can add a professional ring sizing kit to your order for $35 at checkout
(If the sizing kit is returned to us with the proposal ring, we’ll refund $15. If it isn’t returned, that’s completely fine — it’s yours to keep.)
• We custom-make a simple solitaire proposal ring in sterling silver, tailored precisely to your gemstone and ring size, and plate it in your chosen colour if selected
• You propose — and your partner can wear the ring straight away
• After the proposal, you return to us together to design the forever ring (there’s no rush — this is a big moment)
• The proposal ring is returned to us; the gemstone is unset and reset into the final bespoke piece
(For interstate clients, we provide a fully insured, prepaid return satchel)

The silver proposal ring is then responsibly recycled as part of the process.

Choosing your gemstone

Create your Proposal Ring by selecting from our curated collection of responsibly sourced diamonds and coloured gemstones. The setting accommodates most gemstone shapes and works particularly beautifully with oval, cushion, emerald-cut, and similar forms.

The featured imagery on this page shows a 2ct centre stone for scale. Each gemstone is unique, with natural variations in tone and inclusions that add character to your one-of-a-kind piece.

If you don’t see a gemstone that suits your brief, we also offer a personalised gemstone sourcing service.

Gemstone sourcing (optional)

If a gemstone is sourced specifically for you, a $250 sourcing fee applies. This covers dedicated time spent curating suitable options, supplier communication, images and videos, and secure shipping to us.

• The sourcing fee is credited toward the gemstone if you proceed
• If you choose not to move forward, the sourcing fee is non-refundable

Pricing and added value

The Proposal Ring is priced from $1,000–$1,235 AUD, in addition to the cost of your chosen gemstone.

This includes:
• Custom CAD design, manufacture, and hand finishing
• Secure setting of your chosen gemstone
• Complimentary ring box
• Express, fully insured Australia-wide shipping (or in-store collection)

You’ll also receive a $400 credit to apply toward the creation of your final bespoke engagement ring.

The $400 credit is applied toward the final ring make only. If you choose not to proceed with the final engagement ring through us, the credit is non-refundable and not transferable.

Finish options

Choose from:
• Sterling Silver (included)
• Sterling Silver with Yellow Gold plating (+$200)
• Sterling Silver with Rose Gold plating (+$200)

Gold plating is intended for temporary wear only and allows the proposal ring to more closely resemble a traditional gold engagement ring.

Timeframes and delivery

Your Proposal Ring is handcrafted by our Adelaide-based artisan jewellers and requires approximately 6–8 weeks from payment to completion.

Once finished, choose either:
• Complimentary express insured shipping
• Collection from our Utopian Creations retail store

Important notes

Proposal Rings are designed for temporary wear only and are not covered by our lifetime manufacturing warranty. Sterling silver is softer than precious metals and will show wear more quickly. We recommend discontinuing wear after approximately 3-6 months, once the forever ring design process begins.
